To decide not to participate in something at the last minute; to back out.
"She said she'd come to the party but pooped out at the last minute."
Primarily informal American English. Used for both people (losing energy) and machines or devices (stopping suddenly). Slightly childish or humorous in tone when applied to people. Not generally used in professional or formal contexts.
